Promising New Zealand bred mare Acapulco Girl made a successful return to the track with a comfortable first up win at Ipswich for David Vandyke and Ben Thompson.

Acapulco Girl now boasts a record of 3 wins 3 second from just 7 starts, with the best yet to come for the lightly raced mare.

“We’ve always had an opinion of her, but this time in we will focus more on the 1200m-1400m distance range,” said OnTrack principal Grant Morgan.
“We hoped she maybe more a 1600m-2000m as a younger horse, but she might just be too brilliant for that in hindsight.

“She is still doing a bit wrong but she is heading in the right direction.

“Blinkers might be an option for her going forward, but we will keep them up our sleeve for now,” said Morgan.

Acapulco Girl was selected and purchased by Grant Morgan from OnTrack at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for $110,000.

Acapulco Girl is from the famed Denises Joy family, with her second dam the Group 1 winning Euphoria.

Meldubious with Michael Rodd aboard wins at Eagle Farm

Lightly raced four year-old Meldubious was dominant fresh winning a strong Class 1 at his home track of Eagle Farm.

Having just his fourth start, Meldubious was warmly supported by punters to start $2 fav. Favourite backers did have some nervous moments early when replacement rider Michael Rodd was trapped three deep.

Rodd didn’t panic and kept Meldubious in a beautiful rhythm despite covering ground. Entering the straight, Meldubious quickly claimed the lead and never looked in doubt to defeat Fireforce and Sum Invictus.

Rodd replaced an indisposed Ryan Maloney, who had partnered Meldubious to his maiden win last preparation.

Commencing just his second racing preparation, Meldubious has now had 4 start for 2 wins and 1 placing.

Meldubious was secured by OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan for $77,000 from the 2023 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.

Meldubious is out of the Listed Purrealist mare Melrose Place, who has had 5 winners from 5 foals.

Meldubious is a half brother to the high class Singapore stakes winner Tiger Roar, a winner of 7 races (1200m to 1800m) including the Listed Singapore 3yo Sprint.

Following another impressive victory on his home track, Gold Coast galloper Rock Hard Love will now tackle next month’s Ballina Cup, a $3m Big Dance qualifying race.

Prepared by Gary Doughty, Rock Hard Love has now raced on two occasions at the Gold Coast for two wins, both over the 1400m.

Rock Hard Love is now set to contest the $65,000 Ballina Cup (1590m) at Ballina on Friday 16 January, a day prior to the rich Magic Millions raceday.

The Big Dance is worth $3m and run over the 1600m at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day, and is supported by the $750,000 Little Dance also over 1600m.

Eligibility to both races is via a series of Country Cup races throughout New South Wales, including the Ballina Cup.

The David Vandyke prepared Easy Love earned herself a tilt at the Queensland Winter Carnival with an impressive victory at her home course.

Easy Love ventured back to the Sunshine Coast on raceday for the first time since finishing an eye catching fifth in the Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m) in July.

The win as a masterful training feet by Vandyke, with a gap of 32 days between runs and staying at the 1800m journey.

“If there is a better trainer of a middle distance horse in Queensland, I’m yet to see them,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“David is such a wonderful horseman overall, but I do feel he is at his very best with middle distance females like Easy Love.”

“His Group 1 winners Yankee Rose and Gypsy Goddess clearly demonstrate that he has no peer in Queensland.”

Easy Love was well ridden by Jag Guthmann-Chester who sent the $2.10 straight to the front, the first time she has lead in her previous 7 starts.

Easy Love has now had 2 wins and 3 placings from 8 starts.

Easy Love was purchased jointly by trainer David Vandyke and Grant Morgan of OnTrack Thoroughbreds form the 2023 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.

Top priced lot at the sale, Easy Love fetched $140,000 from the draft of Lucas Bloodstock at Croftby, Queensland.

Easy Love already has two siblings with black type in the stakes placed duo of Grey Defence (5 wins) and Defence Missile (5 wins).

Emerging sprinting mare Lady Lucifer made it back to back Saturday metro wins, the latest on the feature Gold Coast Pink Ribbon Cup meeting.

Reappearing two weeks after a dominant Doomben win over 1350m, Lady Lucifer debuted at the Gold Coast and up to 1400m, with another dominant display to score by a soft 2.5 lengths.

Talented rider Emily Lang was again at the centre after her polished front running display last time out, for master trainer David Vandyke.

“Emily has again produced an outstanding ride there,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“She wasn’t the best away, but Emily got her moving and into the lead early and controlled the midrace speed to leave plenty in the tank.

“This mare is really growing in confidence now and I think she is underlining her potential to win black type at some point.

“She is a lovely big lightly raced mare by Hellbent who is really doing a great job as a young sire,” said Morgan.

Purchased for just $55,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale, Lady Lucifer is by the Yarraman Park stallion Hellbent.

Lady Lucifer is out of the Stravinsky mare Miss Twin Peaks.

Lady Lucifer now boasts the enviable record of 10 starts, 4 wins & 5 placings.

Lady Lucifer scores easily at Doomben

Highly talented apprentice Emily Lang showed all of her class in a polished display both on and off the track scoring a visually dominant win aboard Lady Lucifer at Doomben.

Faced with the widest alley, Lang assessed the race perfectly pre race and came up with a strategy which saw Lady Lucifer make light work of her poor draw.

“David (Vandyke) and I were pretty indecisive pre race in relation to riding tactics. Emily came out of the room having done her homework thoroughly. It made it easy in the end for us to give her a free license to ride her own race,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“Lady Lucifer has always indicated Saturday grade ability, but its fair to say her last three runs have been below her best and left us scratching our heads a little.

“Today was the first time she has led. Emily identified pre race that she felt she might be a mare better outside horses, and the wide alley could be in her favour.

“We might of just unearthed a new pattern for her and needless to say, Emily is welcome back aboard her whenever she wants,” said Morgan.

Highly promising four year-old gelding Meldubious found the winners circle at start two scoring impressively at Ipswich.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney for Annabel & Rob Archibald, Meldubious was a hot favourite to score after a narrow defeat at Eagle Farm on debut over 1000m.

Stepping up to 1200m at Ipswich, Meldubious was well ridden by Maloney who overcame the widest alley to get into a lovely trailing position, before quickly claiming his rivals to run away a soft winner.

OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan said that Meldubious would most likely head to the spelling paddock now.

“I think he is a very promising horse. I think we will reward him with a break now. He is still very raw and even his coat isn’t there yet,” said Morgan.

“He gives me the impression he will run at least a mile, perhaps a bit further. The mare has thrown some handy types over the middle distances so I’d say this bloke is getting his ability from mum, which his often the case.”

Morgan purchased Meldubious for $77,000 from the 2023 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.

MISTRESSOFILLUSION scores her first Australian win at Doomben

Irish bred mare Mistressofillusion broke through for her first Australian win for trainer Chris Waller and recently returned jockey, Ben Thompson at Doomben.

After resuming with a very forgivable 9th at Eagle Farm in a messy race over 1800m, the rangy and lightly framed grey mare appreciated the step to 2000m at her Doomben debut.

By outstanding sire of stayers Mastercraftsman, Mistressofillusion was previously trained in the UK by Ralph Beckett where she won twice at Doncaster (2400m) and on the all weather of Kempton Park also over 12 furlongs.

“She is a top of the ground mare who appreciates it firm. She stays all day and the further they go the better,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

Morgan welcomed the return of Ben Thompson, who recently completed a stint in Hong Kong before returning home to Queensland.

“Its brilliant to have Ben back in town. I’m certain he is going to be force in the premiership this year and we will be keen to use him as much as we can.

“Ben nailed the brief today to keep her momentum flowing at the end of her race. He said she has a great set of lungs and was hard to pull up after the win.”

Mistressofillusion was purchased by OnTrack’s Grant Morgan and Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodostock at the 2023 Tattersalls December Mares Sale for 150,000 guineas.

Out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Il Palazzo, Mistressofillusion is a full sister to the stakes winner Still Standing. Il Palazzo is the dam of five to race for four winners.

Classy New Zealand bred 3yo filly Acapulco Girl has been earmarked as a potential black type earner by leading Queensland jockey Ryan Maloney following an impressive first up win at Eagle Farm.

Acapulco Girl is prepared by David Vandyke, and the win continued a purple patch of form for the smart Sunshine Coast trainer. Going into the meeting, the stable was striking at 8 winners from its previous 20 starters.

“She’s got untapped ability, she has a lovely demeanour. Once the penny drops, I think she is up to black type,” said Ryan Maloney following the Eagle Farm victory.

Acapulco Girl has now raced on 4 occasions for 2 wins and 2 seconds. A minor setback cost her a chance to compete in the recent Queensland Winter Carnival.

“We didn’t have much luck with her at the end of her 3yo year. We had her set for the carnival and we just kept running into issues including weather events and minor problems,” said Grant Morgan from OnTrack.

“I think she was the sort of filly who would have been really competitive in a race like the Winx Guineas.”

MOROMNA (FR) scores in the Dean Lester Flemington Cup (2800m)

Former French galloper Mormona set himself on a Cups path following an impressive win at Flemington in the Dean Lester Flemington Cup (2800m).

Jamie Melham took her first sit on the lightly raced six year-old grey gelding and was impressed by his lung capacity, staying ability and turn of foot.

“Crossing the line I could barely pull up for another half lap. He must have a really good set of lungs on him because he did not blow at all,” said Jamie Melham post race.

“It wasn’t just a long grinding win, he had to stop start a few times and he was still very sharp.”

In France, Mormona raced on 15 occasions with 5 wins and 5 places. He won up to Listed level in France over 3000m at his final start before moving to Australia.

Whilst the Flemington Cup was Mormona’s first Australian victory from 11 starts, he has had the hoof on the till for some time with good placings in the Bagot Handicap (2800m) at Flemington, Queensland Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm and Stayers Cup (2400m) at Rosehill.

Mormona was purchased by OnTrack’s Grant Morgan and Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock from the 2023 Arqana Autumn Mixed Sale for just 55,000 EURO.

France has proven to be a happy hunting ground for the Morgan/Boman combination since linking up in the European market from 2021.

Last seasons Group 1 Doomben Cup winner Bois D’Argent was also sourced privately from France for the duo, whilst stakes winner and multiple stakes placegetter Hopeful also came from the Arqana ring.

Slow maturing galloper Pharoah’s Prophecy is putting it all together now for his patient connections with impressive back to back wins at Doomben.

Prepared by astute Sunshine Coast horseman David Vandyke, Pharoah’s Prophecy stepped up to the 1600m this week and looked ultra impressive carving out a dominant win.

At his previous start at Doomben, he was equally impressive first up over 1350m to score under his now regular jockey, Jag Guthman Chester.

His record now reads 6 starts for 2 wins and 2 placings, with the promise of much more to come.

“We have just had to be really patient with him. He’s been a slow maturing horse physically and mentally but has always shown good raw ability,” said Grant Morgan.

“I always had hoped he would be a nice miler as an older horse, and that’s just the way things are shaping now thanks to a very understanding ownership group that have enabled David to give him the time he required.

Pharoah’s Prophecy was purchased by Grant Morgan from the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale for $110,000.

By American Pharoah, Pharoah’s Prophecy more resembles his brilliant dam Speak Fondly in appearance.

A chestnut like her son, Speak Fondly (by Northern Meteor) was won up to Group 1 level for trainer Gai Waterhouse and breeders Gooree Stud, who also bred Pharoah’s Prophecy.

Pharoah’s Prophecy is a half brother to Compelling Truth, who was runner up in this weeks Listed Ramornie Handicap at Grafton.

“Compelling Truth has just got better with time and has now won 12 of 25 starts and is now a runner up at Listed level as a five year-old. Most horses benefit from time, and it seems to be the case with these siblings,” said Morgan.

ROCK HARD LOVE and Boris Thornton score at Eagle Farm

Lightly raced four year-old Rock Hard Love catapulted experienced training duo Gary and Kelly Doughty back into the limelight with an impressive Eagle Farm win.

The Gold Coast based husband and wife have an impressive training resume, despite only putting the polish on a small team from their long time Gold Coast base.

Rock Hard Love was originally prepared at Warwick Farm by leading trainer Bjorn Baker. His Sydney resume read 6 starts for 1 win and 2 placings, featuring a maiden win at Gosford over 1100m.

After a lack lustre last preparation, OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan recommended to the Rock Hard Love ownership group that a move to a smaller Queensland stable would be beneficial.

“Rock Hard Love has always shown good ability, but last prep he just didn’t fire after some impressive trial form.

“There are no trainers going better than Bjorn (Baker), but sometimes horses need a change to spark their ability.

“When I change stables with horses I always believe it should be a quantum change. Theres no point moving from like to like.

"One of his shareholders suggested Gary. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it so I recommended to the group he move to him (Gary Doughty).

"The only other horse we had with Gary and Kelly won races after moving from Alan Bailey when he retired.

“Gary rides his own work. Not many trainers do that now and I thought that would help get the key to this bloke.

“A smaller stable can also focus more on horses that need more attention to get the best out of them,” said Morgan.

The Rock Hard Love win was somewhat bittersweet for the OnTrack team as it supplied the second placed Acapulco Girl in the event, who was a warm $2.80 favourite.

“I must admit I expected Acapulco Girl to win. She is a filly we have had a big opinion of for a long time so that’s another big tick for Rock Hard Love and the job Gary and Kelly have done with ‘Rocky’ (Rock Hard Love),” said Morgan.

Ridden by the underrated Boris Thornton, Rock Hard Love won for Doughty at just the second time of asking following an encouraging Queensland debut at Doomben.

Rock Hard Love was a $200,000 Yearling Purchase by Grant Morgan for the current ownership group from the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

It is with much regret and sadness we acknowledge the passing of Denis Frew.

Denis and wife Margaret were cornerstone shareholders in Champion 3yo and multiple Group 1 winner, Brazen Beau.

The support, guidance and friendship bestowed upon everyone at OnTrack by Denis, will never be forgotten.

Denis was widely known and respected in the Wollongong business community where his wisdom and mentoring touched the lives of many, leaving indelible marks.

It was our pleasure to host Denis and Margaret to Royal Ascot in 2015 where they witnessed an incredibly brave second by Brazen Beau behind American sprinter Undrafted.

Rather than lament in second place following defeat, Denis was quick to gain favour with the those in the winner’s stall.

He struck an instant connection with winning American trainer Wesley Ward and successful jockey Frankie Dettori, who were without a winning owner to share the special moment with.

Denis and Margaret stepped into the void to join Wesley and Frankie as their guests in the winning owner’s area at Royal Ascot.

Denis was a winner, even in defeat.

Aside from Brazen Beau, Denis and Margaret enjoyed plenty of other success with OnTrack. They raced the stakes placed mares Test The World and Cymbalism, whilst their lone remaining racing interest with OnTrack has been the very talented mare Burning Bell.

Denis and Margaret also enjoyed the OnTrack Hong Kong Longines International Racing Tour in 2017, further widening their racing friendship circle.

Rest in peace Denis, your memory lives on at OnTrack.

ACAPULCO GIRL scores at Ipswich

Promising New Zealand bred filly Acapulco Girl overcame adversity to score a second start maiden win at a prohibitive odds on quote.

The David Vandyke prepared Contributer 3yo filly faced the challenging Ipswich circuit and started $1.40 favourite and plenty of adversity.

Backers had reason for concern rounding the tight bend with the rail out 4m.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney, Acapulco Girl was blocked for run entering the straight to the inside of Ikuma (Angela Jones). After finally securing a run between horses at the 200m, Acapulco Girl was severely inconvenienced by Dashing Basics (Kyle Wilson Taylor) who shifted in from the outside creating a concertina effect. Despite that, she found momentum again only forced to hold off the fast finishing Fratianno to survive a tight photo.

Dashing Basics rider was severely reprimanded by QRIC stewards for the incident and fortunate to avoid suspension.

“That’s a tough way to get the result,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“Not many horses could overcome that sort of adversity and win at only start two around a track like this. She has done a great job. This distance will be short of her best and we think she has much better things in store,” said Morgan

Morgan secured Acapulco Girl at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for $110,000.

Acapulco Girl is from the famed Denises Joy family, with her second dam the Group 1 winning Euphoria.

BOIS D'ARGENT wins the Gr 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick

Quality middle distance Group 1 winning galloper Bois D’Argent returned to the winners circle in dashing style with an all the way win in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick.

Ridden by in form Victorian jockey Ethan Brown, Bois D’Argent ($9) produced a dominant display at his third run back from a spell to win by a comfortable 2.34 len victory over Hezashocka ($8.50) with New Endeavour($3.90) in third place.

Last years Group 1 Doomben Cup winner, Bois D’Argent will return to defend that title at Doomben on Saturday 24 May.

Bois D’Argent may also target the $500,000 Gr 2 Hollindale Stks WFA (1800m) at Gold Coast on Saturday 10 May and the $1.2m Gr 2 Q22 (2200m) at Eagle Farm on 14 June.
Bois D’Argent’s Australian record now reads 22 starts, 3 wins & 9 placings and earnings of AUD $1.48m under Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald.

Bois D’Argent was secured in a private purchase from France by Grant Morgan of OnTrack and Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock, Newmarket, UK.

Bois D’Argent European record was exemplary with 12 starts 4 wins and 8, winning up to Listed level at Longchamp for trainer Francis Graffard.

DEALT scores on debut in Super Maiden

Champion trainer Ciaron Maher wasted no time getting into the winners circle with his first starter for Ontrack a winner in the shape of Dundeel filly Dealt.

Beautifully ridden by talented rider Kegan Latham, the victory came with the lucrative Super Maiden prizemoney of $50,000 at the feature Muswellbrook Cup meeting.

A three year-old daughter of Dundeel, Maher has been patient with Dealt electing to trial her 5 occasions before eventually debuting.

“We purchased her to be a filly who will get over 1600m and hopefully well beyond that,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“She’s a big strong filly who has just taken a bit of time to come together physically and mentally.
“Ciaron and his team have given her a good education with those trials truncated by short spells.

“The trial form didn’t look wonderful on face value but she showed a bit in a recent jump out,” said Morgan.

Dealt was purchased as yearling by Grant Morgan from the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for $220,000 from prolific winner producing nursery Hallmark Stud, led by Mark Baker.

Dealt was originally sold in Australia as a weanling by her breeder Ian Smith to Hallmark for $130,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

In another pedigree update for Dealt, her two year-old half brother Amazake debuted at Flemington a day later. Also prepared by Maher, the gelded son of Maurice finished a narrow second indicating a win was also near.

Dealt is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Diminish, a half sister to champion sprinter Buffering.

Lady Lucifer makes it back to back wins

Lightly raced sprinter Lady Lucifer made it back to back wins this time in with another dominant display at the Sunshine Coast.

The David Vandyke prepared Hellbent 4yo looked impressive winning first up over 1000m. Her second up win built on that victory and she looks to have a very bright future.

Lady Lucifer has now had 4 starts for 2 wins and 2 seconds.

“That was a very impressive win,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“She had no favours sitting three deep the trip but she put them to the sword quickly in the straight with plenty in reserve.”

Lady Lucifer recorded a slick 58.23 for the 1000m, coming home in a fast 33.39 for the last 600m.

Leading rider Michael Rodd partnered Lady Lucifer in the victory.

“It’s great to have Michael in our colours again. We go back a long way to his days as an apprentice on the Gold Coast.

“There aren’t many more experienced riders in the room here in Queensland,” said Morgan.

Purchased for just $55,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale, Lady Lucifer is by the Yarraman Park stallion Hellbent.

Lady Lucifer is out of the Stravinsky mare Miss Twin Peaks.

Dan McGillivray returns to scale after winning on Space Tracker

The warm surrounds of Queensland have proven the magic elixir for ex European galloper Space Tracker.

Space Tracker opened his Australian Saturday metro account by scoring a decisive win at his home course of Eagle Farm over 1400m.

Space Tracker is prepared by Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, with the stables Eagle Farm operation headed by Todd Pollard

“He is really enjoying life in Queensland and it proves how advantageous a multi state operation can be,” said OnTrack CEO.

“He’s trained and raced out of all three states. But he has really found his sweet spot here in Queensland.”

Space Tracker was perfectly ridden by mature age apprentice Dan McGillivray who claimed 3kg reducing the 62.5kg handicap to 59.5kg.

Space Tracker was purchased by OnTrack’s Grant Morgan and Blandford Bloodstock’s Stuart Boman from the 2022 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for 100,000 guineas.

Prior to arriving in Australia, Space Tracker raced on 6 occasions winning 3 times (1400m-1600m) at Newmarket (July course), Windsor & Lingfield (all weather).

In Australia, Space Tracker has now raced on 17 occasions, with 3 wins & 7 placings.

Since moving to the Queensland stable at Eagle Farm, has raced on 10 occasions for 3 wins and 4 placings.

BURNING BELL brings up career victory number seven

Talented sprinting mare Burning Bell recorded her seventh career win in dashing style over the 1000m at Eagle Farm.

Prepared by new Gold Coast training duo Toby Edmonds & Stephen McLean, Burning Bell was perfectly ridden by Ryan Maloney.

The win took her record to 7 wins & 3 placings from 20 starts for the six year-old daughter of Black Caviar’s sire, Bel Esprit.

“It’s incredibly difficult to get horses to win their way to open company these days,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“She is such a lovely mare who gives her all. She just might be getting better with age too. I think that would have to be a career best rating today.

Morgan paid credit to the win to Edmonds and Maclean.

“Toby and Stephen have done an amazing job to keep this mare fresh and well. They get her back to the farm between runs and into the paddock and arena.

“It’s working well and we will continue to race her like this leading into the winter carnival where she can hopefully get some black type.

“She is going to make a lovely broodmare for someone when her racing days are over, particularly as such as sound and lightly raced mare with an incredible winning strike rate of 35%,” said Morgan.

Burning Bell was an inexpensive yearling purchase for Ontrack and what is now a large ownership group. Purchased from the COVID impacted 2020 QTIS Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Burning Bell was secured for just $38,000.

Burning Bell is the second foal from the 2yo stakeswinning Sequalo mare Flamenco. Like top sires Written Tycoon and Capitalist, Burning Bell was bred in Queensland by prodigious winner getting farm Daandine Stud at Warwick.

Kayleen's Profit toughs it out to score

New Zealand bred stayer Kayleens Profit showed plenty of grit to break her maiden out in trip at the Sunshine Coast over 1800m.

Prepared by Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald, Kayleen’s Profit was afforded a copy book ride by the underrated Ron Stewart.

“Ronnie is a great judge of pace and I think he rides distance races particularly well,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“People forget he (Ron Stewart) is Group 1 Sydney Cup winning Jockey for Chris Waller.

“He was also seen to good affect for Neasham/Archibald in last years Melbourne Cup aboard Fancy Man who finished a close 7th.

“Most jockeys would have been flailing away with the stick over the final bit by he (Ron) put it away and rode Kayleen’s Profit hands and heels to help keep her balanced,” said Morgan.

Morgan also paid credit to the Neasham/Archibald team, which is headed at Eagle Farm by the astute young assistant trainer Todd Pollard.

“Annabel was keen to step to 1800m second up. I must admit my choice was to stay at the mile and progress upward in trip third up. You have to be very sure of yourself when making moves like that and it shows that the stable is a well-oiled machine.

“We have a good number of quality horses in the stable across three states and I’m really looking forward to a successful year ahead with our team,” said Morgan

Kayleen’s Profit was purchased by Grant Morgan at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale for $140,000 from the draft of Mana Park.

Mana Park is operated by the voice of Kiwi racing, racecaller George Simon and his wife Maryanne.

“Kayleen’s Profit has needed the time we have given her, she had been very soft boned and is now only fully maturing physically after 4 starts and this just her second racing prep.

“It's a shame we missed having her peak as a 3yo to chase Oaks races, but she just wasn’t ready.

“You certainly don’t mind giving them time particularly if they are going to get a trip. She should end up getting up to 2400m which will open plenty of options for her as an older mare,” said Morgan

Lady Lucifer scores a comfortable maiden win at start 3

Powerful mare Lady Lucifer showed her rivals a hot pair of heels to break her maiden in impressive fashion first up from a spell on her home track.

Prepared by the very astute David Vandyke from his boutique Sunshine Coast stable, Lady Lucifer gave her league of supporters little stress despite the short quote of $1.35.

The win came at the Hellbent mares third career start. She placed second at her only two prior runs last preparation, also at the Sunshine Coast.

Lady Lucifer ran into smart maiden winners at both starts. She was defeated by Thankyou Henry and Super Daisy last prep, with both horses going right on with it since in the City.

“Lady Lucifer has just needed that bit of time to grow into her big frame,” said OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan.

“Full credit to her ownership group who have allowed David (Vandyke) and myself to give her the necessary time.

“As a result she is a very sound lightly raced 4yo who has been given positive experiences to build her confidence.

“I think we all get carried away with a horses age sometimes. We forget they don’t stop growing until the end of their 4yo year.

“Fewer horses are racing at 2 now and some horses still really aren’t even mature as 3yo’s.

“None of that matters in the end if you have a nice horse to show for it later on.

“I think she has huge upside now,” said Morgan.

Lady Lucifer was purchased by Morgan at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale from the Yarraman Park draft for $55,000.

Robrick to run in $1m Meteorite at Cranbourne

Promising four year-old Robrick will run in $1m slot race The Meteorite (1200m) next Saturday at Cranbourne.

Prepared locally by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Robrick will run in the slot held by prominent owner Carl Holt.

Well known as the managing owner of top galloper Zaaki (GB), Holt's blue and red colours were carried on the Annabel Neasham import to Group 1 victory on four occasions.

It will however be the well known 'All Gold' colours of OnTrack that will remain on Robrick in the Meteorite. These silks are best known as those carried by Champion Colt and now sire Brazen Beau. They also enjoyed Group 1 success this year aboard Bois D'Argent (GB) who won the Group 1 Doomben Cup, prepared by Annabel Neasham.

Luke Currie has been engaged to partner Robrick in the Cranbourne race.

Last start Robrick was a narrow dead heat second behind another Meteorite slot holder in Rey Magnerio in the Listed Welcome Stakes at Flemington (9 Nov).

This won't be the first million dollar event contested by the four year-old son of Invader. In March, Robrick was a fast closing runner up behind Estriella in the $1m Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington.

Robrick has raced on 11 occasions, winning twice at Flemington and Sandown, with a further 5 placings, with earnings of $366,875.

A gorgeous replica of his talented father, Robrick was purchased by OnTrack principal Grant Morgan at the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale for $220,000.

Good looking Almanzor gelding Bow Tie Affair made the perfect start to his racing career winning on debut for jockey Ron Stewart and trainer David Vandyke.

Stepping out for the first time over 1350m at Ipswich, Bow Tie Affair ($4) triumphed narrowly over the Tony Gollan prepared Tipped Off ($3) and favourite Miss Reilly ($2.80) from the Chris Waller yard.

Bow Tie Affair was purchased at the 2022 William Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by OnTrack CEO Grant Morgan for the value for money price tag of $50,000.

“I’ve been a fan of his sire Almanzor from the moment I set eyes on him at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand,” said Grant Morgan.

“Almanzor has everything I like in a racehorse in terms of his physique and temperament. Bow Tie Affair is very much a replica of his sire.

“They get better with time and distance. It’s very encouraging to see him out and winning first time over 1350m. I expect his best will be at 1600m-2000m plus,” said Morgan.

Bow Tie Affair is out of the More Than Ready mare Ready at Eight who has produced two other winners including the Untethered, who also scored his second win at Kilmore on the same day as Bow Tie Affair.

Tavisan with Dominique Ind at the Beaudesert Show

Former OnTrack galloper Tavisan is relishing his new life in the show ring, recording another victory last weekend at the Beaudesert show.

Tavisan is now owned by talented young horsewomen Dominique Ind.

Ind also rehomed former Ontrack galloper in the sixteen year-old Rock Academy, with the pair enjoying their off track retirements in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Dominique has extensive experience in various stables in South East Queensland, and is currently playing a key role in the Bevan Laming stables at the Gold Coast and Jacob’s Wells.

At only his second show ring appearance, Tavisan won the ANSA led gelding over 15.2 hh class at Beaudesert.

Tavisan will next appear in the showring at the Mullumbimby show on 8 November.

Now a nine year-old, Tavisan had 45 Starts winning 8 times and placing on a further 13 occasions earning A$467,160.

He was prepared initially in New Zealand having 4 starts under Matamata trainer Jacob McKay including an unplaced effort in the Group 1 Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie as a two year-old.

Transferred to Melbourne trainer Mick Price, Tavisan won on his Australian debut at Cranbourne.

He was then runner up at Listed level at Moonee Valley when second behind Brutal, before placing third in the Group 2 Danehill stakes behind Encryption at Flemington.

Tavisan also recorded Victorian black type placings when runner up in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude, third in the Group 2 Australia stakes at Moonee Valley and the Listed Doveton Stakes at Caulfield.

He also won the Apache Cat Classic at Cranbourne, as well as victories at Sandown, Moone Valley and Caulfield (twice).

Tavisan was switched to the care of Kris Lees to finish his career under his dual stables at Newcastle and the Gold Coast.

He won three times for Lees in Queensland, twice at the Sunshine Coast and also in track record time on the Gold Coast polytrack.

Tavisan was black typed placed in Queensland when third at Listed level at Doomben, before being retired in May 2023.

Tavisan was originally purchased by Ontrack’s Grant Morgan for NZ $135,000 at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

A much loved member of the OnTrack racing team and adored by his ownership group, we are so thrilled Tavisan is flourishing in retirement in the very best of care.

Gold Coast Trainer Toby Edmonds this week announced a new training partnership with talented young horseman Stephen Mclean.

Edmonds released the details in a news update to clients:

I am pleased to announce that, as of September 1st, Stephen McLean will be joining me as a new training partner. His addition will help manage the increased workload since Trent’s move to Victoria.

With this change, you will also notice a new business name - details to follow soon.

Stephen, a dynamic 32-year-old who grew up in Bundaberg, is the son of Mark McLean, a well-known accountant and racing identity who co-leads Archer Park Racing with Chris Wessel. Stephen brings extensive experience, having worked in the UK, US, and with several Australian trainers. He also spent his early post-school years at Hallmark Stud in New Zealand.
