Beautifully bred filly Cruising Speed got her maiden out of the way in good style scoring a comfortable win at Doomben. By leading New Zealand sire Savabeel, Cruising Speed comes from the famous Waikato Stud family of the O'Reilly mare Vanilla Sky. The fillies third dam is the great racemare Emancipation. In more recent times Group 1 winner Stratum Star has been added to the immediate family. Cruising Speed was an $80,000 yearling purchase by Grant Morgan of Ontrack Thoroughbreds from the 2014 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka. "This filly has always shown a good deal of ability, like a lot of middle distance New Zealand bred horses it just takes a bit of time to develop them," said Grant Morgan "Her owners have been really patient and enabled us to develop her both here and in New Zealand where she was broken in and had an early pre-training base." "She looks a nice filly to head towards some stakes races at the end of the Brisbane Winter Carnival," said Morgan. Prepared by John, Dan & Chris Meagher at Eagle Farm, Cruising Speed was perfectly rated in front by jockey Brad Stewart. Congratulations to her owners Stephen Hurford, Lynne Smith, Ken Gordon, Rose Rovelli, Judy Coleman, Let It Ride Syndicate (P Ivanovski), Jenny Pixley, Marilyn Searles, Bernie Warnick, Woongarra Syndciate (C Forrester & D Smith), Judy Bandidt, Dominic Bassi, Prof Jim Dale, Brett Grogan, Gordon Henry & Haimes Racing (J, L & R Haimes). |
