Stallion Brazen Beau’s first season just continues to get better. The champion sprinter and dual Group One winner has got two talented colts from his first crop to race in Australia and today he had a smart winner at Scone in the Kris Lees-trained filly Iconic Star. Iconic Star drew an outside gate but showed brilliant speed to cross to the lead and turned the race into a procession winning the 900 metres in a slick 51.55 seconds. She scorched the last 600 metres in 32.9 seconds. “Brazen Beau has had a great start to his career in Australia and the Northern Hemisphere and it’s good to see his fillies starting to show form,” said Ontrack Thoroughbreds’ Grant Morgan. Ontrack purchased Brazen Beau for $70,000 from the Inglis Classic Sale and syndicated the horse. He won two Group Ones, the Coolmore Stakes and Newmarket Handicap, before being sold to Godolphin in a multi-million dollar deal. “He’s got two standout colts in Australia in Accession and Tassort and in the Northern Hemisphere he’s left a black type winning filly in Avengers Queen and the Group Two placegetter at Royal Ascot in Dubai Station. “Beau has a light representation in his first Australian crop as he only had 86 foals and that’s a low number when you look at numbers left by many of the stallions he’s up against. “To achieve the results he’s getting with such light numbers is great and many good judges will tell you that his second crop foals are going to be even better, so it’s full steam ahead for the horse,” said Grant Morgan. Emerging stallion Brazen Beau’s hot Northern Hemisphere summer continued when his son Dubai Station was third in the Group Two Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot overnight. Dubai Station came from well back to snare third giving Brazen Beau his first group placing in the Northern Hemisphere. The young stallion has been in sensational form with five individual winners in the Northern Hemisphere to be the second placed first season sire there. The dual Group One winning sprinter for Ontrack Thoroughbreds made a similar start in Australia through his talented sons Accession and Tassort. “Brazen Beau has had a fantastic start to his stud career in both hemispheres,” said Ontrack’s Grant Morgan, who was trackside at Royal Ascot to watch Dubai Station. “He’s had five winners in the Northern Hemisphere which is the same as in Australia, but up here he’s left the listed winning filly Avengers Queen (2 wins) and now Dubai Station has been Group 2 placed so he couldn’t have wished for a better start to his career. “A lot of great judges have rated the foals from his second crop as being superior types to his first crop and that’s reflected in the amazing prices paid for his yearlings this summer in Australia. “After such a great start it will be interesting to see those horses step on to the track,” said Grant Morgan. Premier Queensland trainer Tony Gollan has joined the Ontrack Thoroughbreds trainer roster.
Ontrack Managing Director Grant Morgan is looking forward to forming a strong alliance with Tony Gollan. “Tony has done an amazing job over the past few years and I feel he has really matured as a trainer,” said Morgan. “I first met Tony when he commenced training in around 2002. Both of our businesses have grown and developed significantly since then.” “Working together, Gollan Racing and OnTrack have the potential to be a formidable force both in the sales ring and on the racetrack.” Gollan has a commanding lead in this season’s Queensland Metropolitan trainers’ premiership, a title he has won for the previous 5 seasons. “An increasing number of existing and potential clients want to race with Tony Gollan. Now is the perfect time to formalise that and we will be placing our first horses with the stable shortly.” According to RacingandSports.com.au, Gollan has now prepared more than 1,200 winners, including 54 individual stakes winners and 3 Group 1 winners. Morgan pointed to the stables outstanding success at the elite level as another key reason to join forces with Gollan. “Tony is one of very few trainers to have prepared Group 1 winners in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. He’d probably be the youngest to achieve that.” Gollan joins the Ontrack Queensland trainer roster which already boasts Gold Coast trainers Toby Edmonds, Kris Lees and Greg Hickman, along with Eagle Farm training partnership John & Chris Meagher, Sunshine Coast trainer David Vandyke and Matthew Dunn at Murwillumbah. Morgan believes that Racing in Queensland was now strongly positioned after recent prizemoney increases and other enhancements for owners, trainers and jockeys in the Sunshine State. “Recent prizemoney increases have made Queensland a very attractive prospect for owners.” “Queensland is a fantastic nurturing ground to develop young horses to race locally, and also to campaign interstate.” “The improvement in the roads between Brisbane and Sydney means horses can move easily between the two capitals which opens up a wide range of options.” News of further stakes increases for Queensland racing has been welcomed by Ontrack Thoroughbreds.
Racing Queensland has confirmed $8 million will be applied to thoroughbred funding from June 17 in addition to the extra $26 million allocated last November. Ontrack Thoroughbreds Managing Director Grant Morgan welcomed the news. “Anything that delivers more prizemoney to our owners is welcomed. “Racing is totally reliant on owners continuing to support the industry and the only way to encourage them to stay involved is the promise of higher returns by way of prizemoney. “The removal of starters fees will help owners as will the news that metropolitan prizemoney will increase at all midweek fixtures and for restricted races on Saturdays. “At Ontrack we strive to find horses capable of winning at metropolitan level so any higher returns for winning city races is welcomed,” said Grant Morgan.
