A smart debut win at Doomben as earmarked a possible tilt at the Queensland Oaks for the untapped Ellibaby. Beautifully ridden by quality rider Kyle Wilson Taylor, Ellibaby ($14) defeated a solid field on debut for trainer David Vandyke. Filling the placings were the Tony Gollan duo To Wish ($2.40 fav) and Addition ($6). Ellibaby was purchased by Grant Morgan from the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $180,000, from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft. “She was a very imposing yearling at the sale. She walked with so much purpose. You didn’t want to stand in front of her for too long when she was walking. She just wanted to keep going over the top of you,” said Grant Morgan. Ellibaby is a half sister to last years Queensland Oaks runner up Reo. “I always felt she would be a filly who would get at least a mile and hopefully up to more of a classic distance. “She will have a short break now and we will head towards the Queensland winter carnival and hopefully the Oaks. “David knows how to win the Oaks having got Gypsy Goddess there two years ago,” said Morgan.
