Bjorn Baker and James McDonald combine
Friday 12 February, 2021
The talented, tough and consistent mare Brazen Gem made it a one act winning at Canterbury.
With six runs already under her belt this preparation, Brazen Gem had been runner up on three occasions this time in.
Few horses can peak at run number seven, but Brazen Gem overcame that hoodoo to record a resounding 2.3 length win over the 1250m course.
Prepared at Warwick Farm by Bjorn Baker, fellow Kiwi expat James McDonald did the steering at Canterbury aboard the daughter of Brazen Beau.
Whilst Brazen Gem has been racing well on softer ground, a return to a Good 4 surface appeared more to her liking.
Brazen Gem has now won 4 races and placed in 4 from 15 starts and over $117,000 in prizemoney with the promise of plenty more to come.
Brazen Gem was secured by Ontrack’s Grant Morgan at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for $160,000 from the Westbury Stud Draft.
From the first crop of in form sire Brazen Beau, Brazen Gem is the first foal of a winning Dane Shadow mare Fifty Eight Facets.
